Meet the new Vancouver Canucks GM
2022-12-19Did you know that the slang word Canucks refers to Canadians and originally meant French-Canadians?
Well, the teams' new General Manager seemed to enjoy mentioning that fact when he met with the media last weekend. Marc-Andre Dore, who is a Trois-Rivieres, Quebec native, was selected Friday by the team ownership to be the next Canucks' GM. The 32 years old French-Canadian was all smile during the press conference and his nomination draw a lot of attention over the weekend in Vancouver. ''Well, I had to choose between the Canadians and the Canucks... whatever what my preference was, one thing was sure, I would be in charge of a team named after my fellow citizens''.
Despite his young age, Mr. Dore has 17 years of experience in fantasy hockey leagues and that seemed to play a key role in his nomination. He is described to be a very patient GM who likes to take his time with his players, which may be unfortunate for the other EHE GMs. His new colleagues will probably experience his greedy side in the next weeks/months. However, when a move is in the best interest of his team, Mr Dore usually pulls the trigger quickly.
Surprisingly, Dore chose Vancouver as his new home, while he could have been the new Montreal Canadiens GM and stay closer to his family. Questioned about why he chose Vancouver, Mr Dore did not hold back on his comments. “I am not the type of person who likes to be last in the standings, praying to get Connor Bedard. With Vancouver, I have a great group of players and I am confident that we can have success as soon as this season.”
The new Canucks GM told the media that his intention for this season is to evaluate the players carefully and take the time to assess every detail before making a move. Asked about what will be his biggest challenge with Vancouver, Dore hesitated a few seconds before answering: “Definitely restore the prospect bank. If we want to be competitive in the upcoming years, we will have to be better at drafting and draft more than twice a year. I will ensure that this will be on top of our priorities as an organization”.
We will have our first glimpse of what the Canucks are capable of tonight, as the team is facing the Coyotes for its first preseason matchup.
