New Boss in Arizona.

2022-08-25

A few days ago I took over the GM duties of the Arizona Coyotes. I immediately texted Tim the outgoing
GM and I asked him where he’s hiding all the good prospects. I asked him for the keys to the desk and
instructions to the coffee maker. The only response I got was “I can’t see your text as the glare and shine
from the Stanley Cup is in my eyes.”   #PatrickRoy

And with that I’ve been dropped into the deep end without any draft capital and a few empty prospect
cupboards. Looks like I’m starting out like every other new GM. Except this team is the defending Cup
Champion and anything we do from here will be based on those lofty accolades.

I’ve told some of the league and I can share with the rest now. The Yotes will be in win mode this
season. Sure we’ve lost some of the weapons and sure I’m a no-experience EHE rookie. No tank nation
here. Not yet!

I’m probably one of the oldest GMs in the League. With the age comes wisdom and patience. Hahaha
Even I don’t believe that one.

I live just outside Toronto and always have. I grew up watching the Leafs and going to as many OHL
games as I can. Fondest memory was a 3 rd round (2008-09) playoff series between PK Subban (Belleville)
and Matt Duchene (Brampton). My son and I had tickets for all three games played in Brampton. PK was
a warrior. He played almost every minute and he played at such a high level. Some of the best hockey
I’ve seen up close. But he ran out of steam and Duchene’s team had too much depth. Another less than
stellar moment was a shouting match between me and Coach Doug Gilmour … love ya Dougie!!

I’ve been interested in hockey and football forever. I’ve been in Fantasy Leagues since BEFORE the
internet. Late 70s I remember hockey and football pools. It was all for money and back then you only scored Football by using TD’s. Every week you had to clip box scores from the newspaper to tally scores. We’ve all come a long way! And
you’re welcome … we paved the way for all you FFL jocks and nerd-it-alls.

It’s a privilege to compete in the EHE. I’m going to bring a unique plan to Arizona. It might take a bit to
develop given the amount of assets in the kitty. Hopefully I can keep Zona near the top and keep Tim’s
wonderful Cup winning tradition alive.
