Montreal Draft Report [2021]
2021-08-25# 20 – Mackie Samoskevich – The Canadiens addressed center with this pick. With Dach already playing with the club, Krebs traded, and Kyrou closing in on a roster spot, the Canadiens felt the need to restock the cupboard. Samoskevich will give the Canadiens a creative center who should be a solid second line center. While he is not a big player [5’11] scouts believe that his ability to move in and out of traffic which helps him avoid those big hits.
#22 – Fedor Svechkov – Able to play wing and center, the Canadiens will probably use Svechkov on the right side given how little depth there is. His point a game-stats the past few seasons in Russia is what caught the Canadiens eye. Scouts like Sveckov’s ability to find open spaces and he won’t hurt you defensively. If he can develop into a 25-30 goal scorer the Canadiens will finally get a boost to a putrid offense.
#32 – Oskar Olausson – The Canadiens were pleasantly surprised to get him in the second round. Olausson should be a solid defensive winger for the Canadiens, someone who can play on the PK. The club will be watching how he does in his first full season in Barrie and how he adjusts to the North American game.
#65 – Colton Dach – It should come as no surprise that the Canadiens drafted Kirby’s younger brother. At 6’4 and 205lbs, the Canadiens have added more size at the forward position. The question will be is he just as good as his brother? His numbers with Saskatoon suggest a wait and see approach, but scouts believe that there are enough tools in the toolbox to believe that he will be a solid EHE player.
#97 – Ryder Korczak – The Canadiens drafted another small center in Korczak whose shot will definitely help the PP. Scouts believe he has another gear when he plays the PP and if that is the case than the Canadiens have the beginnings of a second unit.
#129 – Isaac Belliveau – The Canadiens switch gears with this pick and took a defenseman. The Canadiens feel Broberg and Drsydale will be on the farm soon so it didin’t hurt to use this pick on the defense. Belliveau brings some size and scoring to the blueline. He has scored 72 points in 100 games with Rimouski and Gatineau. If there is a knock on his game it is that Belliveau can be inconsistent and disappear at times.
#161 Garin Bjorklund – The Canadiens selected a goalie with their final pick. They are hoping to add to the depth and the team does have time on its side as Elvis Merzlikins is just entering his prime. The club is hoping that he gets to play a bigger role with Medicine Hat rather than in a relief role. Scouts like his agility and believe that he has the tools needed to be a solid goalie in the pros.

Mackie pick is good, Olausson pick I feel will be the better one.

Nice write up. Pretty jealous of the Samoskevich pick.
