Flames Qualify for the Post Season

While the city fixes a major water pipe that has the city in a state of emergency with a water shortage, and as the world awaits the Calgary Stampede in July, the Calgary Flames will meet the Seattle Kraken for the second year in a row in the playoffs after qualifying with a win in game 80 of the season.

The Flames defeated division rivals, the Vancouver Canucks 5-2. The following game the Flames defeated the Nashville Predators and still remained in the hunt for the division title, however a Canucks win over the Ducks eliminated the Flames from the Pacific Title chase.

The season ended with Calgary defeating the San Jose Sharks 5-0.

The Flames ended the season with 96 points which is only 1 point less than last season. The team dropped their goals against by 15 which showed a commitment to playing a more defensive game.

However, the goals for also decreased by 24. This is probably due to an increased attention to playing a defensive game.

While losing Patrik Laine for the whole season, who contributed 26 goals and 54 points overall also didn’t help. Late in the season the Flames also saw the loss of Boone Jenner, who may be able to return to the playoffs if the Flames can go deep enough.

While goals were down Elias Pettersson potted 43 goals this season, which was up from 34 last year.

With all the ups and downs of the past season, the team has put them behind them. As it’s a whole new level of play that is expected from the guys as they chase for the Lord Stanley Cup.
