Shocking The Hockey World
2024-06-14The Detroit Red Wings shocked the hockey world when they moved out world class goalie Connor Hellebuyck at the EHE trade deadline. There had been whispers of the possibility of him moving on but the Red Wings organization kept shutting it down.
How It Went Down
After much debate between the head honchos, they finally approached their beloved goalie and asked him what his thoughts were on him being moved to a contender. Conner broke down in tears and asked if he could take a couple of hours to a day to think it over and weigh his options. After all Detroit has been his home since day 1 and even brought this city a championship, there's even a statue of him outside the arena hoisting the cup.
Detroit 100% didn't want to move him but knew it would be tough to resign him as a Day 0 UFA and figured if Conner was okay with it why not get some good pieces for him and try their hardest to try to sign if he hits the UFA market.
Goodbye
Conner has scheduled a day in the offseason to come back to Detroit and have a proper farewell day with the fans, which include a free photo ops and autographs.
A big factor for the Red Wings was if they were to move Hellebuyck they also wanted to include the salary of Puljujarvi to free up salary for the upcoming season to resign some RFA's.
Coming back the other way was Colorado's 1st round pick of the 25' season, along with star forward Jordan Kyrou who should help give the Red Wings some nice opitions on the wing come next year. By adding Kyrou the Red Wings will be looking to move Draisaitl back to the center postion and have Kyrou, Boeser, Farabee and Schmaltz as wingers next year.
Other smaller trades at the deadline
-UFA Benning was shipped out to Calgary and in the process we were able to pick up some extra cash along side a minor league defender. Benning has been a OG Wing since Day 1 as well.
-Dvorak was also moved out last second to Philly while also picking up some more cash along side Stenlund who should help solidfy that 4th line.
-Days prior to the deadline we were able to strike a deal with Calgary and send Schenn over while picking up an extra late round pick and another minor league defender who should help out the Griffins come next year.
