Flames Off-Season Moves
2024-02-19With the start of the season underway, the Calgary Flames are going to take a look at their off-season moves. These are the trades they completed to shape the Calgary Wranglers while hopefully adding some quality depth moving forward.
September 11, 2023
Welcome to Calgary Jaggar Firkus
The Calgary Flames sent defenseman Adam Boqvist to the Ottawa Senators for Jagger Firkus.
With the thought the Flames would have no space on the back end, Boqvist was sent off to Ottawa for Firkus. Jaggar Firkus currently plays for the Moose Jaw Warriors and is on pace for 121 points in 63 games with them. Firkus maybe small in stature but with his scoring and offensive abilities he will be big star in Calgary.
December 27, 2023
The Calgary Flames sent Cameron Hughes to the Carolina Hurricanes for Scott Reedy.
This move was made more for waiver-exempt flexibility.
December 28, 2023
The Calgary Flames send Brandon Coe to the Philadelphia Flyers for Donovan Sebrango.
After acquiring Firkus, we felt that Coe became expendable and so Sebrango was brought in for some added depth on defense. Sebrango is a left hand shot dman who can skate and pass well. He was described by some as a raw prospect but we believe if he is given some time he can make an impact at the NHL as a bottom pairing dman.

The Calgary Flames send Austin Watson to the Winnipeg Jets for a 2024 5th-round pick (Jets)
We would like to thank Austin for his time in Ottawa. He was a true gentleman and leader in the locker room.

Welcome to the Calgary Wrangler Alex.
The Calgary Flames send Cody Glass to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Alex Turcotte.
Cody was drafted by GM Stephen at 6th overall in 2017. After some hard discussions with the leadership team in Calgary and limited roster spots on the team. It was decided to send him to TB for Alex Turcotte. This trade seems to have gotten some positive feedback from a couple of GM’s who are a fan of Turcotte.
January 21, 2024
The Calgary Flames send Magnus Hellberg to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Mackenzie MacEachern.
This deal is to add depth and experience to the Calgary Wranglers.
Overall, the deals made this off-season are all about building a deeper, stronger team in the AHL while keeping the pipeline full.
