2024-02-07NEW YORK RANGERS ACQUIRE CLAUDE GIROUX
NEW YORK, February 7th - New York Rangers general manager Martin Auzins announced a deal with the Los Angeles Kings that brings Claude Giroux to New York.
Giroux, 35, had a steady year in 2022-23, recording 31 goals and 49 assists for 80 points in his ninth EHE season.
In 699 career games with Canadiens, Coyotes, Kraken and Kings, Giroux has recorded 284 goals, 462 assists, 746 points and 128 penalty minutes.
Trade sees Rangers ship out two prospects, a 2nd round pick and star player in Jonathan Huberdeau.
"Huber was brought in to help us get across the finish line, to make the playoffs and to fight for the Stanley Cup. Unfortunately in his season and a half we as a team failed to do that and we agreed with Jonathan to part ways". GM Auzins says.
Huberdeau finishes his Rangers career with 139 games played where he recorded 64 goals and 80 assists. In 4 games this year he had one assist and -1 plus/minus rating. Huberdeau had one year left on his deal and the rumor mill had that he was going to test the free agent market at the end of year so Rangers started looking around to see if there was a better fit.
"We are excited to see Claude in blue, red and white. He brings versatily, experience and most importantly - scoring"
