Capitals Name New General Manager
2021-03-26The Washington Capitals have filled their vacant General Manager position with 42 year old Travis Chorostkowski from Edmonton Alberta Canada. Chorostkowski will become the 3rd General Manager in the past 3 calendar years for the Capitals, so hopefully he can bring some stability to the position.
We caught up with Chorostkowski via zoom chat, as he sits in a hotel room waiting out his 2 week Covid-19 quarantine. Chorostkowski had been volunteering as an official at the World's Longest Hockey Game when he got the call from Commissioner Kevin Lacy. "I got the email from Kevin shortly after finishing up as a volunteer official at the World's Longest Hockey Game, which raised over $1.8 million dollars for Cancer research. It was a welcome email for sure."
The Capitals sit middling in the Metropolitan Division, and Chorostkowski takes over a team that sits with a 19-19-3 record at the half way point of the season. "I haven't been able to travel with the team yet due to Covid restrictions, but over the next couple weeks will be able to sit down with players, coaches, and team executives to get a feel for what this team can do." "These next few weeks are important, and will give us an idea if we will be buyers and sellers come the deadline. I really think this team can make a push to get back in the playoff picture."
We look forward to seeing what Chorostkowski can do with this team to put his stamp on the team, while being mindful of the looming expansion draft.
