EHE Calgary Flames - Off Season Series Part 1
2025-01-21With the season on well on its way, its time to take a look back on the off season that has shaped the current Calgary Flames and Calgary Wranglers rosters.
The off season started with the EHE draft where the Calgary Flames and GM Stephen had limited picks and had even had to wait to draft late in the first round.
With the 17th pick of the 2024, and after several attempts to move up with no luck GM Stephen was excited to pick defenseman Stian Solberg.
After selecting Solberg at 17, the Flames had to wait until the 3rd Round where Viggo Gustafsson, another defenseman was selected with the 96th pick. The pick was acquired from a trade with the LA Kings. Where Taylor Hall was sent to LA for picks 96 and 127. After Hall was on the market and being shopped around some GM’s were heard saying that more could have been gotten. Well from inside the organization GM Stephen was very happy with the return and the players selected.
With the Flames next pick at 127 was forward Stephen Halliday. Halliday is a player that GM Stephen thought would have been gone sooner.
At Pick 128, the Flames were proud to select goalie Kirill Zarubin.
Moving into the 5th Round the Flames picked up Ondrek Kos with the 135th pick.
At pick 149 was Viktor Norringer and closing out the last pick was Jakub Malek at pick 150.
Later in the off season the Calgary Flames picked up defenseman Elliott Groenewold who was selected at pick at pick 148.
Later this season the Flames will look to speak individually about some of these players.
