A Hat Trick of Deals Hopes to Cement the Stars as Contenders

Its no suprise that the players were unhappy with how their season ended last year. It didn't help that it came at the hands of their rivals, the Nashville Predators. "You never want to be swept in the playoffs, but you especially don't want to be swept by your rivals," stated captain Roman Josi. From that point on, the number one goal was to get back to the success of the Stars past. "Coming in as a new GM to the most decorated franchise in the league puts a burden on your shoulders for sure," quiped GM Tang. "But I feel like after my first full offseason, things are starting to settle down." It was a busy offseason that saw Tang cut ties with its franchise goalie(only to go to aformentioned rival), and bring in 8 newcomers to the team. The moves haven't stopped there.

The start of the season has been fine for the Stars as they are currently 3rd in the central, but Tang noticed the cracks that were starting to show. "We were getting into too much penalty trouble and getting into too many high scoring games" exclaimed Tang. He looked to address that with his first move.

    • Boone Jenner

    • Nazem Kadri
    • Scott Mayfield
    • Kevin Bahl

Early returns are great for the Stars. In 23 games for the Stars, Kadri has amassed 30 points(7 goals, 23 assists) and is tied for the league lead in assists with Ryan O'Reilly with 2 less games."We wanted to upgrade our top 6 and felt Kadri was the perfect fit" cited Tang. Since that trade, Kaprizov has taken off as well playing next to the pass happy Kadri and after a slow start is up to 37 points in 35 games.

The second deal was to help shore up the top 4 D pairings.

"We wanted to aquire one more top 4 Dman to help shore up the back end. We were looking for someone that dedicates most of their time to wanting to shut down the opponents top line and we feel we found that in Weegar. He has nice term and a low cap hit, so gives us some cost certainty down the road," explained Tang.

The last deal was the big one. They had been looking to finishing rounding up their top 6 all year and were in on almost all the big names. "We knew we had one more move in us, I've been poking around with multiple teams to see what was coming available, but nothing quite was hitting yet, then Doug reached back out and things got moving quite quick."

  • Out
    • Anthony Cirelli
    • Lucas Edmonds
    • David Spacek
    • Ryan Ufko

Everyone knows what they are getting in a player like Brad Marchand. He is the highest goal scorer in EHE history for a reason. "When the Marchand deal came about, we knew we were going to have to pay, but that was fine. To get where we want to get, we knew this was going to have to be the way. When it comes to a guy like Marchand, we felt the price was worth it. He started his career here in Dallas and we would like for him to finish it here."

It is too early to tell if this move is one that will catapult the team over the hump in 2023, but if this team doesn't not reach the ultimate goal, it is not for a lack of trying.
