At Long Last

“At long lost”

Those were the words that GM Knedel used to sum up how this year's Calder Cup playoffs have gone for the Comets. The AHL team was a big focus as we knew in the NHL we wouldn’t be competing for a playoff spot for sometime. After a long 3 years of building a competitive AHL squad the positive results are coming through. This was a prove it season for this squad as it saw many new faces emerge and it was on the back of a disappointing 1st round exit in the 20-21 playoffs.

Journey to Calder Cup Finals:

CONFERENCE QUARTERFINALS

CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS

CONFERENCE FINALS

The Eastern Conference Quarter and Semifinals showed the good mix of top end production and depth production the Comets have had this season. The top line of Barron, Bemstrom, and Leonard showed out were all over ppg in scoring after the 2 rounds. An unexpected sweep of Belleville was a high scoring affair and something no one expected after the strong season Bellville had.

The Eastern Conference Finals were a different beast. Going into the series, both GM's had a feeling it would be a tough one and that it was. In a well fought battle five out of seven games were one goal games, four of which went to overtime. At one point the Comets had gone 10 games with no regulation losses and were 22 seconds away from extending that record per Kevin Lacy.

Now onto the Calder Cup Finals where the Utica Comets take on the Manitoba Moose. This series looks to be another good one between two great teams. May the best team win!
