Quick Q&A with new GM Justin Tang

2022-02-08

Saad: You are a tough guy to get a hold of Mr Tang.

Tang: Sorry about that Yousef. I was busy the last week or so just getting used to everything and asking Mr. Bettman how I go about moving the franchise back where it belongs, Minnesota..

S: You what now..?

T: Joking. I'm just joking. Alright lets get started with this, I have a couple missed calls from some GMs.

S: Alright Justin, lets start there shall we? You come into this team with plenty of firepower on your team, and a bonafide contender. Have you been getting a lot of calls on your stars? Is there anyone is particular you are looking to move?

T: You know it as well as anyone Saad, everyone is calling about everyone. Some calls last an hour or so, some calls I hang up in the first five seconds. Its all apart of the business. I will say I am happy with the core we have right now, and it is clear we are in a good spot, but I will be the first to admit we need to upgrade our prospect offering.

S: How do you go about that without touching that core you mentioned above?

T: One of the beauties of having such a great core is that I think if needed we can pull a piece or two out to get deeper in other areas. For example we have 4 NHL rosterable goalies, and we can only start 1 a night. We have 3-4 top 6 centers as well. Its just a matter of who fits where, and who comes knocking.

S: Thanks for bringing up the Goalies. Carey Price. What is next with him?

T: We are on Carey's time. For everything that he has done for this league and this team in the past, its only right that we continue to give him the time that he needs to get right mentally. If that is with the Dallas Stars, then we will be elated, if it is with another club that he feels better about, then we will work with him. If anyone deserves to to do what he wants, its Carey.

S: What are you goals for your team this season? Is it Stanley Cup or Bust?

T: I mean the goal every year should be to win the Stanley Cup, I think that goes without saying. The problem is that there are plenty of other teams that are thinking that same way. Some times it comes to do who is playing the best hockey at the right time of the year and that is what we are striving for. Find out what works during the regular season so come playoffs we are firing on all cylinders and just hope we can be the hottest team.

S: There are rumours floating around that you are looking at adding depth to your team and maybe a big splash or two, is that true?

T: You know what they say, where there is smoke, there is fire. In the sport of hockey you are always trying to shore up your depth. You are always one shift away from losing a significant player to injury and you don't want that to be the reason your team goes belly-up during the stretch. Now when it comes to make a big move, you never know. Everyone always wants superstars as well right? But its hard to obtain them as well. I had a few GM approach me about something here and there, we will see what comes out of it.

Saad: Unfortunately that is all Mr. Tang had time for today as like he said, he had to get back to some missed calls from GMs. I have a few more stories that should be up soon on the current state of the Dalls Stars, including a Q&A with questions from you fans. Until then you can catch me on twitter @ SaadYousuf126
