Barry Trotz Returns, Lambert to lead Belleville

2020-09-24

The Senators have solidified their Coaching position for the next 3 years at both the NHL and AHL level.

A statement from the team's General Manager Cole Bates:

"We are very  pleased to announce that Sens Head Coach and 2016-2017 EHE Stanley Cup Champion Barry Trotz will remain in Ottawa for the next 3 seasons. It's rare to find the blend of leadership, experience, and tactical genius that Barry brings. His contributions to the Senators organization over his remarkable 7 year tenure are unmatched. Barry will assist in maximizing our newly improved group."

Bates on the firing of Belleville Senators AHL Head Coach Kevin McCarthy, and subsequent hiring of Lane Lambert:

"AHL Head Coach Kevin Mccarthy has been relieved of his duties. We wish Kevin Mccarthy the absolute best. It is with great pleasure however, to announce the signing of Lane Lambert, who agreed to a 3-year deal. Lane shares our vision for how we want both our pro and farm teams to play. He brings experience, and still has a bright future in the next 10 years or so of his coaching career."

The Sens GM is thrilled that, despite significant changes, Trotz remains at the helm. Now, his disciple Lane Lambert is along for the ride. The two are noted friends, who share similar coaching philosophies, and experience with one another. The Senators can be content for 3 years knowing they have the coaching stability they need.

In lieu of big changes come higher expectations. Ottawa finished 2nd last in the NHL, while Belleville was swept in the first round. It appears The Sens are content on relying on each bench boss during their respective push for the playoffs in 2020-2021 season and beyond.
