Makar, the Future Star

2020-05-05

Cale Makar joined the Calgary Flames in 2017 as the 4th overall pick. He was the first of 3 straight picks for GM Steve. The pick was actually the Vegas Golden Knights first round pick that saw Ilya Samsonov head to Vegas for the pick.

So who is Cale Makar?

Makar who was recently franchise tagged is a young dynamo who will be a Flame for the foreseeable future. Makar was born in Calgary and eventually played for the Brooks Bandits who as one source shared, Makar was a high light real player for the Bandits as a walk on. Makar starred for the bandits and eventually went on to University at UMass where he excelled there as well. Which earned him a spot on Team Canada who won gold as well as an invite to Team Canada for the 2018 Winter Olympics, which he turned down to focus on his season at UMass.

Currently in his first season Makar has put up 30 points in 57 games while playing an average of 17:46 minutes per game. Unfortunately Makar has lost time due to some injuries.

Makar had this to say;

“We only have 13 games left in the season and I hope I can get back soon. The team has made huge strides this season and I want to get back in there to help make a late season push for the playoffs”.

“As for the deadline, I am glad there wasn’t any big moves made. It shows that GM Steve has faith in us to earn the spot in the playoffs. Now we just need to get out there and get the job done”.

Until the final whistle goes on the last game of the season, the Flames have the City of Calgary on the edge of their seat.
