Flames Deadline

2020-05-03

The deadline has come and gone for the Calgary Flames and without a deal on Deadline Day by GM Steve. The Flames however did make some minor moves leading up to the deadline.

Between March 11th and up to the deadline the Flames made 5 moves in an effort to help the team out.

Coming to Calgary are Travis Hamonic, Carter Rowney, Domink Kahun, Joe Gambardella and Kole Lind.

The Flames also picked up some picks and cash to go along with prospects Nick Henry, Milan Kloucek, and Filip Westerlund.

With all the injuries at the moment it wasn’t without a lack of effort that the Flames tried to bring in some more bodies for the big club to make a push to the playoffs however things just didn’t come together.

GM Steve had this to say.

“It would have been nice to bring in another experienced winger and a defensemen today but at the end the day the team has come a long ways.  So breaking up that chemistry just didn’t make sense for us. The guys in the room put themselves in this position to make a push. So removing one of them would only set us back.”

“We have some solid depth that can be called upon to help out until guys return from injury, and with each passing day the Heat look like they will be heading off into different directions very soon while others will get a taste of the stretch drive and to fight for a playoff spot.”

“I will admit moving Ryan Reaves yesterday was a tough decision as he is such a heart and soul player but with the young kids knocking at the door space needed to be made for next year, while also giving someone a chance to gain experience this season in the heat of a playoff drive. Considering Reaves was a waiver wire pick up, we feel we got great value in getting a 4th round pick and cash back for him. We wish him the best.”

“In closing, I’d like to thank Thomas for his live on the spot broadcasting today during Deadline day. It really added another element to the day and it’s something we as an organization look forward to again. Maybe at the draft.”

“Now let’s get down to business and play some very meaningful games”.
