What happens with Panthers?
2020-04-28A few days ago the official website of the EHE league published an announcement of the appointment of Shean Gardiner to the position of GM Panthers. A few hours ago we met with him in his office and asked him some questions.
- Shean, it's almost 10:00 and you're still working, do you have a lot of work?
- Yes, it's true. You could say I've been living in an office for the last two days.
- What are you doing right now?
- See you those folders over there? Each folder contains all the information for each Panthers player.
- And what do you do with them?
- First, I get to know their biography, study their history. Then together with the head coach, we discuss their future in our team, decide with whom we want to continue working, with whom we may have to part.
- Now this is a very topical question, because very soon it will be a deadline. Have you already decided who you plan to moving?
- Yes, we do not have much time, so we work so hard. We already have a list of players that we are ready to moving and for some of them we already have specific offers. So far, we're thinking about it.
- It will be difficult to get to the playoffs this year and many experts believe that the Panthers can become a big seller in the deadline.
- First, I disagree about the playoffs. Take a look at the table of our division - a series of successful matches and we are already in the playoffs zone. Secondly, I want to immediately reassure our fans - there will be no big sale for sure.
- So you are satisfied with roster of the Panthers?
- - I think that every manager will tell you that he is not 100% satisfied with his roster. There are always positions that you'd like to strengthen. But our last two games are encouraging. We lost to Coyotes in just 1 puck and then confidently defeated Maple Leafs, and both of these teams have high places in the table.
- Sounds promising. Tell us a little bit about yourself. You are from Germany, does it mean that the team will soon have players from Germany?
- Yes, I have really long been following not only the German market, but also the European and Russian ones. But I won't make any promises. If a player can benefit our team, his nationality does not matter.
- And how did you get into EHE and the Panthers in particular?
- My agent has long told me that there are some vacancies in the league. But you know it's not that easy to get here. I've had a lot of interviews, including with the league management. After long negotiations, we came to a common ground and here I am:)
- And what are your first impressions?
- To be honest, my expectations were even slightly lower. I admired the organization of the league. Everything is on a very high level.
- Have you talked to the other managers yet?
- Sure. A lot of GMs have sent me emails and wished me luck. Some of them right away got down to business and started discussing possible trades:)
- Well, thank you for finding us a few minutes. Good luck to you and your team!
- Thanks. Come to our games. We will do everything to make you happy after the game!
