Senators Prospects Have Fantastic Showing at 2020 WJC 2020-01-05 The final game of hockeys greatest showcase has ended. Russia and Canada dueled it out in yet another great contest between 2 of hockeys best. Canada squeaked out their 18th WJC gold medal in the end. The tournament always known for it's high compete level, display of skill, and just the games future stars all in one place. This year the Senators had 4 prospects in the games this year, Arthur Kaiyev (USA), Michal Teply (CZE), Danil Misyul (RUS), and Kevin Bahl (CAN). Rumors have it there is a potential future Senators prospect in the games as well, but that is a story for another time. Michal Teply and the Czech Replublic finished 7th in this years tournament. He himself ended the tournament with 5 assists and 15 SOG. All in all a disappointing tournament for the Czech's coming out with just 1 win, but that one win was against a very loaded Russia team on Boxing Day. Arthur Kaliyev and the United States finished 6th in the WJC this year. Kalyiev himself finished with 4 goals, 2 assists and 12 shots. A good individual tournament for a very dissapointing finish for the United States. The team was expected to be among the best this year, with guys like Cole Caufield and Oliver Whalstrom in the mix. 6th place finish after a loss to Finland in the quarter finals is far from where they wanna finish. Kaliyev's going to go back to Hamilton and continue his hunt for the league scoring title. Danil Misyul and the Russians came home with a Silver Medal, after a disappointing finish to the final game. Misyul himself was held pointless, with 6 SOG and 12 PIM. A more defensive player, he played a big role in shutting down other teams superstars. The biggest downfall for the Russian's was their lack of composure when the game got chippy. There was a missed penalty on Canada in the dying minutes that could have changed the game, but their response to missing out on the call? Taking another penalty. Kevin Bahl and Team Canada are your 2020 WJC Champions. Bahl finished with 1 assist, but was a key piece in shutting down the Russians, and all the other top teams they played. Canada came back big time in the final game to win it, at one point they were down by 2 with about 11 minutes left. The team really showed a ton of character and never gave up and came home with another gold medal. Bahl will return to Ottawa for his final OHL season, hoping to make a push for the Memorial Cup. Bahl is expected to turn pro next year. That's it for this years Senators WJC recap. The future here is bright, but a little forshadowing, its gonna be alot brighter in about 7 days. Go Sens Go!
