Senators Hire New GM Ed Arsenault 2019-12-29 Ottawa, ON- On December 29th, 2019, the Senators started the next chapter in their history. They have hired the 2nd GM in franchise history, Ed Arsenault, the 24 year old from Prince Edward Island, Canada. Arsenault has been a Sens fan his whole hockey fandom life, falling in love with them while watching stars like Daniel Alfredsson, Dany Heatley, Alexei Yashin, and his all time favorite player, Jason Spezza. Being a Sens fan has given him the patience and appreciation to the tried and true, draft and develop strategy, which is exactly what he plans on doing in the EHE. A true draft and prospect specialist, this time of the year is a true favorite for the new GM. The World Juniors tournement has always been one of the most entertaining and best displays of skill in hockey. This year is no different., especialy with Sens prospects Kevin Bahl, Arthur Kalyev, Danil Misyul and Michel Teply. Obvisously always rooting for great hockey but secretly hoping his hometown Canada comes home with some new gold jewelery. After being Stanley Cup Champions in 2017, the new Senators GM knows he can't dwell on the past. He knows it's time to do what he does best. Draft, develop. create a plan and stick to it. He is a GM who needs to create an identity, create a team that can compete every single night, create a team who can't be taken lightly. That starts today. That starts in the AHL. We all know the Senators won't be chasing the Stanley Cup soon, but a Calder Cup? Thats where it all starts. Build from the bottom up, you have to have a culture of winning in a franchise on all levels to be successful. That starts with the future of the Ottawa Senators, today, in Belleville. As far as the NHL roster is concerned, I think its very fair to say that there is work to be done. 1st thing, there are 3 NHL quality starters on this roster, a clear position of strength but it is not fair for one of them to not get games. We will look to deal from that area of strength to help strengthen our other many weaknesses. The good news is the Senators have a slew of very good, young, promising players coming up through Belleville right now, Logan Brown, Max Jones, Libjor Hajek etc.. are all going to be contributors down the road. Prospects like Kevin Bahl, Arthur Kaliyev and Shane Bowers, are all also expected to be players down the road. To sum things up here, it's going to be a slow burn rebuild. In the meantime, check your local listings for the next Belleville Senators game, it's going to be some fun hockey the next little bit. The road back to the top starts now Ottawa. Lets Get It.
