RECAP: Florida sets team record with 22 blocked shots in opener

2019-12-15

It was a record-setting season opener for the Florida Panthers, as the EHE team blocked an astonishing 22 shots against the Tampa Bay Lightning (in a 9-2 loss...).

The Lightning players blocked just 3.

Panthers defenseman Hampus Lindholm stopped 6 on his own, twice as many as every Tampa player combined. Esa Lindell blocked 4, while Kevan Miller and Morgan Rielly blocked 3 apiece.

“Very proud of the willingness to sacrifice the body, especially by our d-corp” said Florida head coach Jack Capuano.

In another milestone, goaltender Josef Korenar recorded his first career save in the Elite Hockey Experience, stopping Andy Greene of the Lightning in the second period.

The Panthers host the Lightning again tonight in a re-match. Tampa won the opener by a final score of 9-2.
