Season Preview: New York Rangers 2019-2020

6TH SEASON

Rangers are heading into their 6th season under GM Martin Auzins sporting 190-143-43 record which makes him the 3rd winningest GM among active ones. After delivering their best season yet to date last year expectations are high. Anything short of making the playoffs will be huge dissapointment among everyone in the organistation and with those who calls themselves the blueshirts fans. On the paper this team has it's strongest roster yet and are very eager to get going.

Was change needed?

David Quinn has been named the 3rd coach of the New York Rangers in EHE history. Quinn replaces John Hynes, who was fired November 28 afterleading them to a 44-25-13 record in 2018-19, their best in franchise history. Side note: GM Auzins was feeling smoke about Hynes real life job security and was right as Hynes was fired 5 days after being released in EHE.

Talking with the GM:
Before training camp started, I sat down with David Quinn and for about two hours we talked hockey. Some of it was specific to our team, but much of it was a broader discussion about hockey philosophy. What makes a good team tick? What causes a talented roster to fail? How do you construct a consistently good power play? We had all these conversations and David is a proven winner coming from BU and we are looking forward what he can bring and how he can elevate this team to the next level.

Who will lead this team?

Talking with John Carlson: 
Coach from last year got let go and that was a wake-up call for sure. The GM, Martin Auzins, came in and told us we had to come to training camp in shape and ready to play, because this year was going to be different. Are we a team that could compete for the Stanley Cup? We will let the hockey we play answer that but one thing is for sure we are going to start carrying ourselves like one.
We changed our culture and our system this offseason and we prepared for what's to come. When the puck drops this week against the Jets, I think a lot of us will have something to prove. We put in the work this summer so that we could have an opportunity to show why we are in New York in the first place.
