New Jersey decides to go young with new GM Knedel 2019-11-14 New Jersey - With the new season fast approaching the New Jersey Devils were shook with the sudden departure of former GM Cole Bates. In the midst of free agency the league acted quickly and hired one of the youngest GMs in league history, Ryan Knedel. “I’m excited to see what this team is made of and what the future has in store for us. We are a young team with many promising and talented prospects.” Ryan said in his introductory press conference. With a good group of young guys centered around Matt Barzal and Brandon Carlo, GM Knedel hopes he can come in and bring a new system and a winning culture. He was also quoted saying he is intrigued with what he has down in Springfield with their AHL team. “We have guys down there who are about to face their first full pro season and I can’t wait to see how they do and guys down there who have some experience but are still young and have potential.” Young players like Sammy Blais, Eric Comrie, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, and Victor Olofsson are players to keep an eye on. GM Knedel talked about his plans with the team and he plans to continue the rebuild of the New Jersey Devils. He has said that he doesn’t want to rush into anything and would like to take some time to evaluate the assets that he has before he makes any drastic changes to the team. Being in the thick of free agency, GM Knedel says he is leaving no stone unturned and he still has some holes to fill regarding both his NHL and AHL teams. “You just gotta wait and see what we have planned”.
