Battle of the Best

Is there a better matchup on a Saturday Night then the top 2 teams in the league facing off against one another?!  The world will find out when the Tampa Bay Lightning host the surging Detroit Red Wings this Saturday night. Detroit is riding a 9 game winning streak entering the matchup while Tampa Bay has a record of 8-1-1 in their last 10 games.  Tampa Bay has been able to hold 1st place in the league for the majority of the season but is really being pushed to stay on top of their game with Detroit’s recent play. Tampa Bay leads the league with an impressive 85 points in 57 games while Detroit is 2nd with 79 points in 55 games.  

Detroit is lead by their stars upfront including Leon Draisaitl (71 points and league leader in assists), Nikita Kucherov (69 points) and Valdimir Tarasenko (55 points).  All three are at a point per game pace and are showing no signs of slowing down. Tampa Bay on the other hand are lead by the outstanding play of Roberto Luongo (29 wins, which is more wins than 16 teams in the EHE so far, 2.32 GAA, .918 SV%) as well as the play from Alex Pietrangelo (57 points, leader in points for defencemen and a leading Norris Trophy candidate) and Brayden Point (63 points).  This game will be jam packed with skill and star players, a fans dream game to attend no doubt.

This will be the 3rd matchup between the clubs with each team getting a win so far.   There will be one more game played between the two teams later on this year.
