Top 20 Under-25 - 2019 Sharks Edition 2019-01-15 TOP 20 UNDER 25 AN EHE SERIES Welcome to the 2019 San Jose Sharks Top 20 Under 25! Kyle Phillips - 6th manager this franchise has seen. Kyle is the first one to see more than 100 games for a struggling franchise that finally looks to turn the corner. Phillips has lead Sharks to a 48-47-9 record during his tenure. Sharks has only seen the postseason once and they are rebuilding hard. Thanks Kyle for his time and his input on this list. Player Qualifications: Before we dive into the 2018-2019 Top-20 Under 25 EHE San Jose Sharks Players Ranking, let’s take a quick moment to determine the criteria upon which these players have been selected. Any player who will be 25 years-of-age or older by January 1st, 2019, has not been considered. Now, without further ado, dive into the ranking. As always, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below. 1: Josh Morrissey, D, Jets Age: 23 // Drafted: 253rd overall, Inaugural draft (MTL) Accquired: 11.20.2017 via TRADE: TRADE: San Jose Sharks acquired Josh Morrissey, Miles Wood, Griffin Reinhart, and a 2018 5th round pick from the New York Rangers for Phil Myers, Nick Paul, Calle Dahlstrom, a 2018 1st round pick, and cash considerations. Probably would have topped my list last season just on the strength of his defensive play, and it's a no-brainer now that the offensive side of his game has caught up. I'm not sure he can reach the stratosphere of truly elite blueliners, but he projects as a top-pairing guy for years. 2: Brady Skjei, D, Rangers Age: 24 // Drafted: 443rd overall, Inaugural draft (NYR) Accquired: 10.19.2018 via TRADE: San Jose Sharks acquired Brady Skjei, Calle Dahlstrom, and Roland McKeown from the New York Rangers for Denis Malgin, Jacob Larsson, Filip Kral, Gilles Senn, Michael Brodzinski, a 2020 1st round pick, and 2019 3rd, 4th, and 5th round picks. He might never get back to the level of point production we saw two years ago, but his floor is that of a consistent second-pairing guy in the EHE. That's a valuable piece to have under long-term team control, and he'll always have some degree of offensive upside. To me, he's an ideal player to round out the Top 4 on a contending team. 3: Nikolay Goldobin, LW/RW, Canucks Age: 23 // Drafted: 43rd overall, 2015 (SJ) Accquired: 10.15.2018 - Coyotes awarded a 2019 1st round pick, a 2019 3rd round pick, and $1,300,000 as compensation from the Sharks for offer sheet to Nikolay Goldobin. Acquisition cost aside (shudder) he's a young guy who looks like he's finally catching on. He's almost certainly going to top out as a middle-6 forward as opposed to a first-liner, but he makes his linemates more dangerous no matter where he plays. At his peak I think he can put up 50-60 points while pushing play in the right direction on a nightly basis. 4: Jack Roslovic, C/RW, Jets Age: 21 // Drafted: 76th overall, 2015 (COL) Accquired: 10.17.2017 - Signed as an unrestricted free agent by the San Jose Sharks to a 3-year contract ($3,715,000 per season, $3,343,500 signing bonus). A perfect example of how player development usually doesn't progress in a linear fashion, but I'm convinced he's still on the right track. He's learning a tough position at a young age, and his skill, pedigree, and AHL track record tell me that the offense will come with time. 5: Quinn Hughes, D, Canucks Age: 19 // Drafted: 5th overall, 2018 (SJ) \ What can I say about this kid that hasn't been said already? The upside is sky-high, and his style of game fits perfectly with what I want the Sharks to become. Still, it's a massive leap from college to the pros. He's a gambler with the puck, and will never be a great defender without it, so he'll have to convince his coaches (and me) that the rewards outweigh the risks. ------------------------------------------------------------- Other notable players: Jacob Middleton, Nick Henry, Ryan Mantha, Linus Karlsson, Cole Fonstad and Mason Shaw. ------------------------------------------------------------- TOP 20 UNDER 25 - AN EHE SERIES New York Rangers TOP 20 UNDER 25
