Flames Announce Head Coach
2018-11-16The Calgary Flames are proud to announce Paul Maurice as the new Head Coach of the Calgary Flames. Paul joins the Flames organization after 4 years with the St. Louis Blues. Paul brings a wealth of experience to the organization along with a mind for a high octane offense and a physical brand of hockey which should make for an exciting brand of hockey down at the Saddledome.
While putting the final touches on the hiring of Maurice. The Flames also completed a deal to bolster the goaltending position for the Stockton Heat for the upcoming season while securing the future in net for the Calgary Flames. Coming from Boston is highly touted goaltender Tristan Jarry. Also joining Calgary is Dustin Tokarski and Daniel Winnik along with a 2020 5th round pick. In order to bring in Jarry, General Manager Stephen Gough had to send Dan Vladar and highly touted prospect Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen along with a 2020 3rd round pick.
When asked, Gough had this to say. Luukkonen has a very bright future ahead of him and its always sad to see a player I drafted traded however this move was made for now and the future as Luukkonen was at least 2-3 years away.
As for both Winnik and Tokarski, they will bring some depth at the forward and goaltender position in the short term while the kids gain further grooming with the Heat. When I broke the news to Stockton Heat Coach Bob Boughner that Paul was hired he was clearly disappointed he wasn’t considered for the Head Coaching job of the Flames. However that was short lived when he had heard about acquisition of Jarry. After that he couldn’t contain his excitement and expressed his how happy he was to have a goalie of his caliber on the team.
With training camp underway excitement is in the mountain air again for a new season and even though many changes have occurred, I still am determined to add and improve both the Heat and Flames to improve their odds of making the playoffs.
Buckle up Calgary and Stockton it’s about to get exciting. A new season is upon us.
