All Smiles in Vancouver

2015-04-03

Almost twenty games into the season life is good on the west coast and the Vancouver Canucks are all smiles.  The Pacific leading Canucks have started the season 14-4-1 including an impressive 6-1-1 road record.  Fan’s and management alike are started to get very excited about the next 20 game stretch.  But this isn’t how many people in Vancouver envisioned the start of the season after the inaugural draft.

When GM Quinn took over the Vancouver franchise early in the season he knew he had a solid club, but never expected to be leading the league.  “I am surprised that were having such a strong start to the season, but the expectations were high before I came into the picture.” said Quinn.

A couple of weeks after taking over Quinn made a bold move and acquired one of the best defensemen in the league , Shea Weber.  “To get a player like Shea it doesn’t come cheap, but I want make our team tougher and I’ve done that.” Quinn paid a big price to secure the stud defenseman including Max Pacioretty, Thomas Hickey, MacKenzie Skapski and a 3rd round pick.

As it sits now it looks like the deal is working out for the Canucks and Quinn knew what he was doing moving a potential 40 goal scorer.  Only time will tell if the early move will pay off in a playoff appearance, but if the opening 19 games is any indication the Canucks could be in for an extended playoff run and playing some meaningful hockey in April and May.
