Patience and Passion pay off

Habs GM Duran Size landed arguably the biggest free agent in EHE history with a record setting deal with Defenseman Drew Doughty.

"We always believed he would sign here!"

Even after the lottery selection of Andrei Svechnikov, Size fortunes began taking a turn for the worse. Andrej Sekera suffering a torn ACL during off season workouts and Nate Schmidt being suspended 20 games by the League for substance abuse, Size maintained his composure and resolve.

The push for Doughty.

Size met with Doughty at the opening of free agency with a Max offer and detailed outlook of the turnaround the Habs had planned.

Size further backed this up by going out and convincing Max Pacioretty and Justin Braun to discount deals in their attempts to land Doughty as well.

"We explained to Max and Justin what our plan was and having the chance to patrol the blue land with a man like Doughty was too good to pass up."

With Max and Justin signed to friendly deals after day 2, Size turned his attention back to Doughty and their increased offer and opportunity.

"We knew Drew was speaking to other teams as well during the process, we believed that by going and bringing in other talented players to surround him with, would show Drew just how serious we were."

When it was all said and done, Doughty's deal with Montreal is rumoured to be roughly 12.65 mil per season with a record signing bonus of 11.4 million, also record setting in EHE.
