Rocket Exorcise Ice Cap demons

2018-06-08

After a grueling 5 game series against the nasty Utica Comets, going up against the rival Senators with the tattered but not torn roster the Rocket had going into game 1 had them feeling shades of last season.

The Rocket had a much different view of things.

Getting one of their top forwards in John Quenneville back for game 1, the Rocket were able to once again, prove that they have without a doubt one of the deepest teams in the AHL with two stellar home performances but perhaps even more stellar was the Triple OT victory in game 3 and perhaps, stealing game 4 in OT in a game that had the Senators fighting for their playoff lives.

"We've just gone out there and proven that we deserve to be in the position we in and we owe it to all the guys in the locker room and sitting in the press box to go out there and never give up!" Captain Landon Ferraro was quoted as saying after the Rocket won in OT thanks to Kevin Connaugton's first goal of the playoffs after he was injured in the first round.

For Rocket president, Sofia Vasquez-Size, sweeping the Senators couldn't have gelt any better. After a gruleing game 5 series against the Wolf Pack last year, the Ice Caps ran out of gas against a more talented and faster Senators team, losing in 6 games. This year though, with the way the entire roster has stepped up to contribute, there was no denying the Rocket their chance to move on to the Conference Finals!

Papa, who has hovered around the team but has largely kept his hands off the team, couldn't be more proud.

"I just provided her with the advice and assistance she needed when things were looking rough at the beginning." Habs GM and President, Duran Size, said of his daughter.

Yakupov to be 100% for Conference Finals???

It was largely rumoured that Forward, Nail Yakupov, was going to be injured for the rest of the playoffs after suffering a devastating knee injury in game 2 of their series against the Comets. Now, it is being rumoured that Yakupov could be fully healed and ready to go for the start of game 1.

Head Coach, Craig Berube, stayed cautiously optimistic "The sweep has certainly given all of our guys a chance to rest and heal up before we know who we are playing and when it starts. We hope to have everyone ready to go but we don't know for sure yet what Yakupov's status is for game 1, it's one day at a time."

The Rocket will have the advantage of waiting at home for their opponent, regardless of who wins between the Sound Tigers and Royals, game 1 will take place at Place Bell, once a date has been determined!
