Markov Now Lack-ing A Helping Hand
2018-03-26It was a painful sight for the Montreal faithful in what was already a dismal season.
Habs defenseman and Captain, Andrei Markov, had his hand visibly crushed in the boards after taking a hit from Blues forward, Michael Haley which left his down on the ice for several minutes before he could finally stand up.
"It was just awful to watch, as soon as Markov went down you knew something was wrong."
The Captain was quite frustrated and upset after the incident as he had been playing rather well lately and trying to help salvage a brutal season for the Canadiens after they got off to a hot start.
"Hearing the diagnosis was something Markov had a hard time accepting."
Doctors have mentioned anywhere from a 4-6 week recovery period for the Habs captain.
Trade Value Impact
With the injury, it puts the Habs captin out long past the trade deadline. When Markov was asked about his time table he had this to say
"I'd feel better about returning if we were in a better playoff position"
While Markov is slated to return in the regular season, Habs GM Duran Size isn't giving up hope that he can deal the General and Solid defenseman, his return could give any playoff team a strong push when he's cleared to play.
"He could end up being a surprise bonus for any team looking to keep him stashed away for the playoffs"
Markov will focus on his recovery and possible trade talk as the deadline looms closer.
Other Potential Trade Chips
The Habs are still looking to move some of their other veteran D-men, Andrej Sekera has been mentioned along with Kyle Quincey as well.
The Habs also have forwards Colin Wilson and Markus Granlund available.
