Common sense and sanity prevail as league rescinds suspension

2018-02-02

Islanders Veteran Defenseman Francois Beauchemin was thrown out in the first period in last night's 5-4 loss against the Kings. His offense? Instigating a fight against forward Jakub Voracek.

Nobody was injured on the play.

No obvious intent to injure was determined on the play.

No match penalty was assessed on the play.

Francois Beauchemin does not have an exhaustive list of suspensions.

Except the league handed out a 4 game suspension after the instigator penalty and the fighting major, which left everybody in the organization and fans absolutely confounded.

The Islanders didn't even file an appeal, because it was just mind boggling how it was handed down in the first place. "We didn't even get a youtube video from the DOPS" said Islanders GM Tony Chiu. "We went over it with the coaching staff, we spoke to Francois, nobody knows what happened. We discussed internally filing an appeal with the league, except we weren't really sure how we were supposed to appeal something with no precedent. Eventually we decided we might as well just shut down Francois for 4 games, just in case we made things worse with an appeal. You know those people at the DOPS office, let's just say I avoid criticizing them as much as I possibly can."

Eventually the suspension reached the Commissioner's office, where it eventually got sorted out. The suspension was rescinded immediately, but the league office has declined to comment.

When asked about the whole process, the Islander's GM responded with one of his most often used quotes

"It is what it is"
