Senators Reeling After Losing Their Captain!

2015-02-26

The Ottawa Senators big expectations this year just took a major hit with their Captain gone for 2 months.  The Senators came out of the draft looking quite competitive, but GM Fletcher wanted to solidfy both their top 6 and their locker-room.  So he went out and paid a handsome sum of a 1st rounder in the 2015 SuperDraft and a high-end D prospect in Jamie Oleksiak to land one of the very best players and leaders out there, Henrik Zetterberg.  In fact the Senators immediately named him Captain, and was expecting quite the combo of Malkin, Nash and Hank, but that dream didn't last long as Zetterberg fell down awkwardly in the 1st period of the 1st game of the season.  X-Rays came back negative in terms of a break, but his ankle is severely sprained, and he is expected to miss the first two months of the season.  The season is already shortened, so this may amount to Zetterberg coming back with only a handful of games left of the regular season.  The Sens now have it in tough to put themselves in a playoff position without their captain.  Brad Stuart has been named interm captain, with Nash and Scuderi as the assistants.

GM Fletcher hasn't been afraid to pull off any deals so far, but don't expect him to make a knee jerk reaction right away.  He is in wait and see mode.
