Close, But Not Just Yet 2017-11-13 With the EHE season now underway the Flyers coaching staff had some tough choices to make heading into the season as some guys were fighting for a spot right up until the end while one player in particular may have left the organization a bit disappointed. Dylan Strome is a young kid with tons of skill carrying big expectations. The organization still believes in the kid, even if there are some outside of Philly who are starting to question, for Dylan, the only question is, does he still believe? How will he respond with being sent back down to the minors? Will he go down and pout? or will he take another step forward and light up the AHL? A very pleasant surprise is that of RWer Connor Brown. Here's a kid who was only able to get into 6 games last season with the Flyers AHL affiliate Phantoms team after the Flyers had acquired him. Many expected that Brown would once again see time in the minors this season. However after a strong training camp and pre-season the kids landed a spot with the big club. Not only that but he's playing in the top six. Flyers head coach Bill Peters" Kids got a lot of heart. He works hard, never takes a shift off and can play in both ends of the ice." The coach clearly has trust in the kid already as Brown is seeing time on the PK and powerplay. Those that have been able to watch him so far this year have said that he's here to stay, the kids an NHL player. Making the jump to the big club along with Brown were towering Dman Nikita Tryamkin and Radek Faksa. Faksa is expected to continue to center the 4th line while playing on the PK. Last season he had 64 points in 76 games with the Phantoms and was a + 16 on the year. Several guys were so close to making the team, but you can expect to see them with the Flyers next season barring a major setback with Mikhail Sergachev on the Philly blueline, Jesper Bratt, Jakub Vrana and Pavel Buchnevich down the wing. Goaltender Charlie Lindgren may receive the backup duties and Drake Caggiula may even be up with the big club sometime soon. If some of these guys are have good season's this year, then maybe the Flyers could avoid the craziness that is free agency, well at least the big names. Nick Cousins is a kid who has played very well in the AHL, but continues to be unable to crack the Flyers roster. Cousins had 62 points last season in 67 games. This season he has 1 goal in 2 games. Young Dman Rasmus Andersson leads his AHL Phantoms in goals early on as the kid has 3 goals from the backend in just 4 games. He was another guy who was fighting for a spot right until the end and we may see in the pros next season. Well the Phantoms are 2-0 to start the year after back to back seasons where the team finished atop the AHL standings. To end those seasons though were back to back disappointing playoff appearances with first round exits. The team of course is hoping for much better results this time around. The Flyers have also started the year 2-0. Next up for them they're on the road in New York to take on the Islanders.
