Philly's Hopes All On Their Prospects

2017-10-12

BREAKING NEWS....The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired goaltender Phillipe Desrosiers from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for 21 yr old goaltender Brandon Halverson.  More to come on this bolckbuster trade.....

The Philadelphia Flyers have built a reputation for "reaching" when it comes to selecting players at the draft.  Sometimes it works out, and sometimes it does not.  Case in point at the 2016 EHE Entry draft the Flyers took Jesper Bratt with the 7th pick in the 3rd round, or Dmitri Sokolov with a late 2nd.  Rumors have it that the Flyers have received several calls on both these players over the offseason.  GM Mucyk" yeah well prior to the draft I had 3 or 4 GMs contact me about Sokolov, even received some enticing offers for him, as much as 2 separate offers of a late 1st rounder.  As far as Bratt goes, a couple of GM's have contacted me these past few days, but we really like the kid, and we won't be moving either guy.  With the amount of research and time my scouting staff puts into finding these guys we like, it makes it very difficult to stomach moving any of them"  Not all Flyers picks are calculated/researched, sometimes the Flyers GM has been known to pick with his heart, like when he selected Yegor Korshkov (Leafs fan)

The Flyers do have a deep prospect pool, with a couple top 10 picks in the mix.  The organization hopes to start to see some of these higher picks on the ice for the Flyers next season.  Guys like Dylan Strome and Mikhail Sergachev.   Making the jump to the pro roster this upcoming season will be Connor Brown, Radek Faksa, Drake Caggiula.  Having an outside shot will be Pavel Buchnevich, Rasmus Andersson, Chris Bigras, Jakub Vrana and Nick Cousins along with the already mentioned Strome and Sergachev.  Outside hopes hang on fans getting to see Bratt and Mascherin with the Flyers next season.  With a prospect pool of 25 guys deep, there are bound to be some hits in there somewhere that Flyers fans will enjoy watching in the future.

The Silly season is well underway, actually it's more winding down as craziness is starting to become thought process...oh wait, Perreault at almost $8 mill, maybe craziness is well in gear in some heads.    The Flyers came into FA with too many holes to fill, hopes were that some of the names mentioned above would be with the Flyers this season, however that doesn't seem to be the case.  So the Flyers have opened their pockets and signed a few, well, names.  Of those names you've got Anton Stralman, Patrick Sharp and Lee Stempniak.  The team will hope to see continued development from guys like Darnell Nurse , Gabriel Landeskog, Brett Connolly, Jean-Gabriel Pageau and #1 goalie Matt Murray.  Murray will be key if this team hopes to have any success, with the inability to bring in an actual big name scoring FA, the team may need to rely on their defensive game and go old school Devils trap hockey in order to have success.

Honestly, I put far too much time into my fantasy leagues and draft lists.  Probably too many fantasy leagues which is why.  I already have a rather larger draft list for next year that will be under construction often.    I could only imagine where my business would be if I even put a quarter of the effort that I put into fantasy hockey stuff into my business.  For example, today I was supposed to do 4 -6 hours on business (lucky the wife never see's this stuff) instead I have been doing fantasy stuff all day, and I will not get to business stuff again today.  Between FA here and starting a new league I actually have not got around to doing business stuff at all this week.    I get by on minimal hours put into work, but doesn't get us anything special.  Shit if I actually put time into the business we would probably be doing rather well.  Next week leagues should be started or close to it and I can get back to focusing on our business.  I was in a great rhythm until we moved.
