Blue Jackets announce Captain and Assistants 2015-01-19 The Columbus Blue Jackets announced on Monday morning their leadership group for the upcoming season. 1st round selection and unarguably the team's best player , defenseman, Drew Doughty has been given the captaincy to the Blue Jackets. Doughty at the age of 25 years old already has an impressive resume. 2 Stanley Cup Championships and 2 Olympic Gold medals, his experience at such a young age is second to none. GM Nellis did comment "He is elite at everything he does, which includes the type of teammate he is - he is respected and is liekd by all the teammates he's ever had, we are excited to start the season with Drew as our captain". Doughty who is signed for 4 years has already been quoted in being excited to join the Columbus organization and plans to elad the organization to success. The Jackets also announced bioth assistants. Long time Doughty teammate , defenseman, Matt Greene was given an "A". The rugged 31 year old from Michigan was selected in the 26th round of the inaugural draft and will be asked to take a mentor role with the young D nucleus which includes Seth Jones, Ryan Ellis and Brandon Gormley. Finally, center Bryan Little will be the other assistant. The 27 year old, Edmonton, AB native was selected in the 6th round and should be the leading candidate for offense in the BlueJackets organization in season 1. The announcement of Greene and Little as assistants could mean contract extensions as early as when the inaugural draft is done. "We are still awaiting on contracts to be defined, but these 2 have been selected to our leadership group and we definitely be looking to lock them up long term" said GM Nellis.
