Oilers season review

2017-05-06

This season has been a stellar one for the Edmonton Oilers with a 52-25-5 record good for their first EHE division title.  One of the main reason for that success was a very solid defensive, the 2nd best of the league behind Boston for goals allowed.

Robin Lehner stole the starting goaltender position from Ondrej Pavelec en route to a fabulous year of 50 wins.  Sadly, only one of those wins was recorded in playoffs which explain Oilers quick exit.  Here is a review of GM Dubois first season in the EHE

It was a busy year with 10 trades.  Most of them to get good veterans for the playoffs building a competitive team for this season as well as the next one., while still keeping a 1st rounder for this year draft.

Best move

Biggest acquisition was Corey Perry in the offseason, he lead the Oilers with 76 points including 35 goals, his best one in the EHE as well as 5 points in 5 games in the playoffs

Worst move

Trading away Jonathan Bernier to Detroit at the deadline prove to be a mistake with Lehner collapse in the playoffs. He would have been a useful replacement to Lehner.

Even though the fans in Edmonton are sad to see their beloved Oilers go out in 5, they were quite happy to see some playoffs action this year,   see you in 2017-2018
