Washington Capitals at the Deadline 2017-03-01 With the trade deadline just over 11 days away, what should we expect out of Washington? There are 26 games remaining and the Capitals are sitting first in their division and second in the conference. Earlier the team shored up their defense by aquiring veteran Dan Giradri from Montreal for Nikita Nesterov, which was a glaring weakness. They currently sit near the top of the league in offense, defence, and special teams. They've been getting great goaltending from Luongo and Vasilevskiy. Their farm team is currently tops in the AHL. And their propect pool is not weak by league standards. So what is a need for them at the deadline? We caught up with GM Mitchell for his thoughts: "We've had tire kickers on key players and have inquired ourselves on a few guys but aren't in a position to do anything at this time" Said the GM. "We'd like to acquire a right winger, I think that's a position that could use a shot in the arm. That said, we aren't willing to move key pieces for help and create weaknesses elsewhere." So will it be a slow deadline in Washington? The team seems willing to move some farm players like Jarred Tinordi, Clayton Stoner, Shane Prince, and Chris Summers but there isn't much interest around the league for players like this.
