Canadiens Selecting Experience to Foster Youth 2014-12-26 Coming into the inagural draft, the Canadiens had a game plan for how they wanted to build their roster. Three picks into the draft, that philosophy changed. When the Canadiens drafted Patrick Marleau, there was a sense that perhaps maybe they would use him as a trade chip after the draft was completed. Rumour had it that several GMs were interested in his services as an experienced game changer and could still get the job done at his age. However, Marleau has used his experience to help convince Size to bring in several key members of their roster based on what he knows and what he has seen. "Marleau has been a great addition to our roster and has helped us scout and select talent to help build our roster." Size mentioned when he and Marleau had their first discussion following his selection by the Canadiens. "We weren't sure if he was willing to come to Montreal but after we had our first meeting, not only was he willing to be a part of this but he has been instrumental in some of our selections coming to Montreal." No selection would feel that influence more than Jason Pominville, drafted in the 13th round (193rd overall). Rumoured had it that Pominville and Marleau had a few conversations as Size had been looking to add a potent Right Winger to fill out their top line with Marleau and Giroux headlining Left Wing and Center respectively. Even Giroux had been involved in some conversations as well but even cited that Marleau's experience and knowledge have been vital to how this roster has been shaped. Giroux has even mentioned that the Captaincy of the Canadiens would fall to Marleau based on how the draft has gone. "There's no question that he has been a leader even during the draft and some of the kids that are coming to this team will gain tremendously from his experience." Size is unsure at this point who the Alternate captains could be, his Blueline is looking a tad on the younger side led by Niskanen and Voynov. Voynov's status still remains unclear as he deals with his on going legal issues involving the domestic assault charges on his wife. Size believes though that this team can come together quickly and with their selections continuing, he believes that this team can come flying out of the gate and surprise a few teams perhaps while others are expected to be much more formidable contenders for EHE's first season. As to who Size will draft going forward, he refused to tip his hand in any direction. "we'll continue to monitor several players and draft based on who we like and what we need at the time our pick comes around" He did have a message for the rest of the league though. "We're coming" Vive le Bleu Blanc et Rouge Duran Size GM of the Montreal Canadiens
