Push in the right direction 2017-02-07 February 7th, 2017 TRADE 1. The New York Rangers have acquired veteran center Valtteri Filppula and defenseman Kevin Klein from the Los Angeles Kings, the Rangers announced Thursday, the 5th of January. In return, the Kings received defensive prospect Alex Carrier, plus Finnish prospect Aleksi Saarela. The Kings' forward has spent his 3-year career with three clubs and is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, once his two-year, $13 million contract expires. Kevin Klein has still one more year after this remaining on his contract that carrries $2 million cap hit but is not expansion draft safe. TRADE 2. The New York Rangers have acquired Jeff Carter and Dalton Prout from the Columbus Blue Jackets for Tyson Barrie, Jack Roslovic and Joel Edmundson. Carter made his Rangers debut Wednesday night against the Florida Panthers at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers won 2-1 in overtime and Carter got a nice ovation when he hopped over the boards for his first shift 38 seconds in, and he created a surge of excitement when he fired a hard shot on goal from the top edge of the left circle. "I know this is going to be a challenge for me, but I love challenges and I like to rise to the occasion," Carter said after recording two shots in 20 minutes, 32 seconds of ice time. "This is a chance to play the game in one of the biggest markets, and I know what comes with it." TRADE 3. For Henrik Sedin it's a new beginning. For the New York Rangers, the hope is the longtime forward will be a great piece of their quest to win the Stanley Cup. Sedin's 2-year tenure in Chicago ended when he was acquired by the Rangers for Clarke MacArthur, Jansen Harkins and 2017 7th round pick, on 26th of January at 12 p.m.
