Free Falling Devils
2016-12-16From top dog to Bottom feeder, the New Jersey Devils have fallen from #2 on the Power Ranking list all the way to the floor sitting uncomfortably at #30
A recent article regarding the Vancouver Canucks fall from grace bring to mind an open challenge posted from New Jersey Devils GM Kris Muchowski a mere 24 days ago.
“#1 and #2 on the Power Rankings face off tonight. Canucks V Devils”
Oh how the tables have turned.
What was looking to be a Stanley cup match up between east and west power houses has fallen to a desperate fight to hold onto a playoff position.
“We are currently sitting in 8th in the East, however that is only on points. Kevin Lacy and those damn Hurricanes have a higher point percentage than us. So basically we currently are on the outside looking in.” - GM Muchowski
Currently on a massive slide seeing the team go 3-7 in the last 10 games (one of those being a massive 7-0 thumping by the Wild), Captain Ryan Getzlaf called a players only meeting before their game against the Avalanche last night.
“What we talked about in the meeting is between us. You will simply have to watch and see what happens on the ice”
This was all we could get out of Getzlaf when asked about what took place behind those closed doors.
Whatever was said seemed to have worked. For one game at least.
The Devils came out and won 3-1 against the Avs that night. Time will tell if this is the beginning of the return to power we are used to here in New Jersey, or simply a blip on the spiral out of control we have been on this past month.
