Berube leads IceCaps with new Identity
2016-11-21Dont ever overlook the power and skill of a 16 month old President
Canadiens Assistant GM and IceCaps President, Sofia Vasquez-Size, had a feeling when a potential deal to sign Kirk Muller to the head coaching job for the IceCaps with daddy fell through, she knew it would be up to her to get an appropriate deal done.
She then turned her attention on Craig Berube
After meeting for a few days, with daddy sitting in on the meetings to assist, Sofia landed their new head coach for the IceCaps and topped that off by signing a few under the radar players during free agency while the rest of the sharks were chasing the Radulovs, Staffords and the Marleaus of the free agent pool.
Those acquisitions along with Berube's leadership have done wonders for the Caps early.
"I dont know what exactly she saw in Berube when they first met, i never even had him on my radar when looking for a new IceCaps head coach and all of a sudden, she just swooped in, took over and here we are."
The IceCaps were terrible offensively last year and it showed in a glaring series against Binghamton. After that playoff loss, coupled with the inaugural season of dissapointment, deciding not to renew the contract of head coach Rob Zettler was an easy decision.
Through 14 games this season, the IceCaps lead the league in points, goals, goal differential and top 3 in other categories such as goals allowed, hits and penalty minutes.
A huge credit has also been the play of Goaltender Reto Berra who has been lights out this season as well. Looking to keep building on his success with the IceCaps through two seasons has finally been given a strong defense in front of him and stellar play up the ice as well.
"It seems that either me or Eddie have a great chance to win games with the team in front of us."
Though looking good now, anything can happen in the AHL and the race to the Calder Cup is just getting started.
What? You wanted me to talk about the Tyson Barrie trade?
