The Season Begins! 2016-10-28 The Megaloblog returns! In 3-D! Scary, yes? So, we here at Megaloblog were planning on doing a free agency post, but then the Sharks ended up doing virtually nothing in free agency. Sure, they plugged some holes for the Barracuda farm squad, which included a bunch of waiver wire juggling during pre-season, but not a lot to crow about. And looking at what some of the more interesting names signed for, it's no wonder. All the Sharks maybe needed was another puck moving dman, but those were in short supply and high demand. Can't remember which team Gwenpool signed with, but I hear it was $24 million for 3 years, plus a $6 million signing bonus. The Sharks had a good preseason, going 4-0-1, but kids didn't get much play, as the majority of the farm team was sent down before the 2nd game. And of course, preseason means pretty much nothing anyway. But it's a good sign, if nothing else. So the Sharks have an interesting team going into the 2016-17 season. Plenty of offense up front, but also a lot of truculence. It won't be a fun team to play against. Well, unless they get carried away with penalties. The weakness of the team is defense, and the goaltending is a little suspect. Bobrovsky needs a bounce-back year if the Sharks are going anywhere this season. Here, coach Hakstol gives the team a pre-game pep talk. The season is still very early, and the Sharks are off to a 1-1-1 start. The most recent game, a 4-0 loss against the Caps, was one of those ones where penalty trouble got away from them. Matt Hendricks tried to remove Marc Staal's head with his stick, was kicked out of the game, and word has come down that he has a 4-game suspension to deal with. I dunno, that just doesn't seem like the smart thing to do, but hey, Matt Hendricks, amiright? Happy Halloween from the Hendricks family! So, not the best start, but could be worse! The Megaloblog will be back in a few weeks to see how the Sharks season is progressing. Until then, keep your stick on the ice and your fin cresting the waves!
