Caps announce final cuts

2016-10-12

The final cuts were announced today ahead of the pre-season start for the Hershey Bears. There were no surprises as everyone who was expected to go back to Hershey was sent back yesterday prior to the Capitals pre-season tilt against the New York Islanders which saw the team win 5-1.

Here is your teams final roster going into the season:

WASHINGTON CAPITALS

    LW                              C                       RW

Ondrej Palat       Anze Kopitar      Loui Eriksson

Benoit Pouliot    Martin Hanzal    Radim Vrbata

Anders Lee       Sean Couturier   Alexander Burmistrov

Tobias Rieder     Brian Boyle       Jonathan Marchessault

Extra Forward: Patrick Dwyer

    LD                                            RD

Francois Beauchemin      Justin Faulk

Marc Staal                         Aaron Ekblad

Clayton Stoner                 Zbynyk Michalek

Extra Defenceman: Nate Prosser

          G

Roberto Luongo

Andrei Vasilevskiy

Patrick Dwyer will only see time in case of injury so he'll be in the press box most nights with one of Nate Prosser or Clayton Stoner as those two will share time on the 3rd defensive pair. Matt Nieto and Nikita Nesterov will be the first two players called up if needed.

And here is the expected line-up for the farm team, though things can change here in pre-season:

Hershey Bears

       LW                         C                              RW

Matt Nieto            Zac Dalpe                Emerson Etem

Shane Prince     Phil McRae             Christian Thomas

Sonny Milano    Louis-Marc Aubry    Jeremy Langlois

Max Friberg        Ethan Werek              Joel Vermin

Extra Forwards: Justin Vaive, Danick Gauthier, Stefan Fournier

      LD                                 RD

Justin Falk                 Chris Summers

Nikita Nesterov         Tommy Cross

Jarred Tinordi               Mark Alt

Extra Defenceman: Jordan Schmaltz, Paul Postma, Nick Jensen, Beau Schmitz

             G

Anthony Stolarz

Spencer Martin

Extra Goalie: Matt Hackett

The forward group is pretty much set, Justin Vaive may get time incase of injury or call ups. The Defence will see Postma and Schmaltz rotating in from time to time for Cross, Tinordi, and Alt. As for the Goalies, the only time Hackett will get time is incase of injury. He'll have to get his starts in the ECHL.
