The New CBJ Era begins...
2016-09-29
After the 2015/16 season ended... people knew it was coming. The Jackets ended the season with their heads down and many doubted the future. A few questionable trades were made, chances taken by a gambler who seemed to end up with a losing hand. As the offseason unfolded, it was evident that key prospects didnt develop as expected, and holes in the line-up became blatantly obvious... the need to be somewhat competitive was high... the entire RW was depleted, the team lacked 3 true top six forwards, and even most of the bottom six didn't seem up to par to EHE overall team standards for contending teams. And the defence... what defence? Yes changes were coming.
First sign of winds passing through Columbus... Craig Anderson. While it was known Craig was always liked by GM Silverton, many were in shock that the first big signing the club made was for another starter... crowds started howling at the gates screaming why the GM brought in another G when we already had one of the best G in the league, and we didnt spend the $$$ on anything else... What is this dude smoking?
Then came the NYR deal... ok, maybe he's actually putting some thought somewhere... an aging vet who can play in the top 6 at occassions... flashy no, serviceable yeah I guess... and besides the cost a 7th... ok really not worth taking room on this article... just a trade that will be forgotten tomorrow.
Then came the rumors that the owner opened the vault... and that corner office light open in the wee hours... is it true that this cheap btard will actually compete in this UFA? Been hearing many options are open... but with the way GMs are throwing million dollar bonuses at farm team players... wouldnt be surprised for this GM to return to his cheap self.
Then came the BOOM. Out of the blue... one phone call... 30 min talk. Lundqvist out. Carter in. Finally an actually top line RW. This trade worked out for all three parties – Lundqvist apparently gave his house keys to Anderson as a home welcoming gift and threw himself a goodbye party on a private jet on his way to Arizona.
... One thing that hasnt changed though... The winds are still strong in Columbus
