Dallas Off-Season Positive To Date

2016-06-28

DALLAS - Following their second consecutive EHE Cup victory, fans wondered what direction the club would take going forward. It's an old team, built out of the gate for an early championship run, possibly two. Looking at the contract situation it's obvious that the team is a year from being blown up. GM McGugan made the decision to start a season early - dealing LW Brad Marchand to one the upcoming season's early favourites, the San Jose Sharks. The deal wasn't without controversy with many thinking the Sharks gave up too much in the deal in returning rookie Dylan Larkin and the Sharks 1st round pick (17) in the upcoming draft. The Stars acquired a second 1st round pick dealing goaltender Mike Condon along with forwards Cedric Paquette, Phillip Danault and their own 4th in 2016 to the Boston Bruins for the Canucks 1st and Florida's 3rd, both 2016 picks.

Roman Josi became the first Dallas Star to win a major regular season award the other night when he took home the 2016 James Norris Trophy, recognizing the best defenseman in the EHE. Josi put together an impressive all around season with 71 points to go along with his +/- of 15, 135 blocked shots and 216 shots on net.

The last league trophy to be awarded is the Lindsey Award - presented to the GM recognized as the overall best GM of the season. This season saw the voting end with three tied atop the mountain; Boston GM Rob Prach, Montreal GM Duran Size and Dallas GM Bob McGugan. A secondround of voting is ongoing to determine which of the three very deservnig GMs will take away the hardware.
