New GM listens to the fans!

About a week ago, Edmonton Oilers owner annouced the hiring of Gilbert Dubois as the new General Manager with a clear objective : make the team competitive while protecting the youth in place.  The fans are tired of missing the playoffs and that their only true action is 'Draft Day'.

After taking some time to analyse the assets in place and placing young defensemen Maatta and Trouba on the untouchable list, Dubois began the reconstruction:

1st, he sent Brock Nelson and a 2nd rounder to Detroit in return of David Krejci

"We needed a true top playmaker in order to guide our 1st line and those are rare.  We were fortunate that Detroit was looking to move Krejci and jump on the opportunity while it was there.  We're sad to let Brock go but with Krejci, RHN and Little in place in the center line, there was no need for Nelson in the short term"

"Yeah, we know that there is only one year left to Krejci contract but it will be his job to prove that he deserves one of our Franchise Tag player"

Dubois quickly notice the lack of quality wingers to complete the top 6 and made a small move in order to accomodate the left wing acquiring Chris Kunitz from the Chicago Blackhawks in return of Ryan Hartman and a 3rd rounder:

"It was a very quick and easy deal as Chicago was looking to get rid of Kunitz and we needed a scoring winger.  I think Hartman might be Chicago's GM cousin or something as he is trying to acquire him since a week.  Kunitz will definately fill the void waiting for Teravainen to grow and take his place"

Even though Kunitz can help fill the net,  there was still a true scorer lacking in Edmonton and Dubois latest move is filling this need.  He acquire Corey Perry from Carolina alonside Overall pick 21st in return of Bjorkstrand, and the 10th and 29th pick in the current draft:

"Well, this one trade was the most controversial amongside the managing board here in Edmonton.  We dot give a highly talented prospect as well as the 10th and 29th pick in this year draft but to get a player like Perry, you do need to give something and our biggest trade asset was the 10th pick.  I still wanted to pick in the 1st round and I am glad that Kevin accepted to swap his 1st rounder in return of ours"

When asked about the lack of defensive upgrades, here is what Dubois had to say:

"We do have a plan to upgrade the defensive front, you will learn about it in a few weeks.  However, we are satisfied with what should be our top 3 for the years to come :  Maatta, Trouba and Bogosian.  We might be still giving a lot of goals for the upcoming season but we are confident that we can score plenty with the renewed top 6,  We do hope that Trouba, Maatta and Lehner develop fast enough to help prevent giving up too much goals"

It is said that teams are built in June nowadays, Dubois gave a good example of it in the last few days.  In a non-official poll amongst Edmonton fans, 74% of them agree with the moves made by Dubois, 16% disagrees and 10% had no clue who is Dubois......
