Overload Upfront

2016-02-15
After Friday lost against the Washington Capitals where we saw backup goalie Mike McKenna lost another game, GM Lemyre received an intersesting call from GM Wes Mucyk from the Philadelphia Flyers.  Mr. Wes had been requested about goalie McKenna for a little while and it just happened that we were looking at improving at that position. We beleive that our starting goalie Jonathan Bernier is doing more than a decent job this season but he needs to rest for the playoffs and the team needs to stay competive on the nights where Bernier is taking it off.  The Kings inquired about a couple of other players but they settled on Andrew Hammond. Looks like both GMs knew exactly what they wanted.

A bigger news was just about to come.

For the last couple of weeks, GM Lemyre has been looking at improving his left wing position but really nothing serious came out.  As GM Lemyre was exchanging communication with GM Mucyk,  Valtteri Filpulla became available. Valtteri was exactly what the Kings was looking for : a left winger with some scoring abilities.  He happened to be just that and much more.  The Finn player could also play center when needed giving the Kings more options this year and next year.  Filpulla has 2 years remaining at his contract. He might come with a high price tag but the Kings have the cap room. At the end, It only cost McKenna which they claimed of waivers from Anaheim, a 3rd and a 4th round pick in this year draft.

To summarize,  the Kings felt that they were weak on the left side and they just got a nice upgrade with Filpulla.  Now in net, they sure feel more confortable in getting Hammond that we hope will be able to steal some games from now until the end of the season.  He might just be in goals for the next Kings game against the Panthers.

The Kings are always open for discussion.

Good luck to all for the final stretch of the season.
