Devils Solidify Blueline. 2016-02-12 News Broke last night that the New Jersey Devils have brought in another Veteran Defender just weeks after acquiring Willie Mitchell from the Preds. Fedora Tyutin, of the Washington Capitals is now a Member of the Devils. “I am excited to get into the locker room and meet the rest of the guys. We have played against each other 4 times already this season so it will be interesting to be on the other side for the final game” - Tyutin Breaking Down the deal: The New Jersey Devils Sent Clayton Stoner, Eric Boulton and a 3rd and 5th round selection in the upcoming draft. Stoner is a solid depth defender, however he was sitting on the bench this year as the Devils 8th or 9th D man. With a 2 year contract, the Devils are not losing much parting ways with a guy who would have played next to no games for the remainder of his contract then gone to free agency. Bolton has only 1 year remaining on his contract before becoming a UFA. Playing 4th line minutes down in the Farm system, he is far from what you would call a loss. The 3rd and 5th Picks are really the only cost the Devils had to pay, all things considered. Looking to go very deep in the playoffs these picks should not end up very high in their respective rounds. Still holding onto their 1st and 2nd round selections the Devils are not concerned about walking away from the entry draft empty handed. Coming back to the in the trade are Veteran Defender Fedor Tyutin, Taylor Beck, Ryan Pilon and $1,000,000. Fedora Turin is on the final year of his contract and will more than likely test the open market come the off season in search of a new term. However, he provides the Devils with yet another very solid presence on the BlueLine. He will be a key part of an already strong PK unit and has the ability to step up with some timely offence when needed. He will be an important part of the Devils playoff movement this year. Taylor Beck is a solid young player who will report to Greenville. He will receive time on both the top 5v5 line and PP unit. Currently on a 3 year contract, that ends while still an RFA, he has the opportunity to be a long term fixture atop the Greenville roster. If he continues to develop we may even see him suite up for the Devils down the road. The rights to Prospect Ryan Pilon is an interesting addition to the deal. Pilon has recently stepped away from the game for personal reasons. It is suspected the he was added to the deal as a throw in more than anything else to push the deal through. With that in mind if he ever decided to lace up the skates again and make a run at the NHL; the Devils will happily sign him to a contract. Add $1,000,000 to the equation and the Devils Management and fan base could not be happier with how the deal turned out. “This is exactly what we were looking for. I have been on the phones with numerous GMs over the last month or so looking for a way to add some Veteran Depth to our roster for the playoffs without hurting our future. We came close a couple times to making a move but in the end decided to hold onto our prospects and had to step away. A few weeks ago we had an opportunity to bring in Mitchell for a 4th and jumped on it. We felt it helped us step up our game down the stretch without mortgaging our future. With that deal done, I wanted to see if we could bring in one more Vet defender. After a long negotiation process with Jared Mitchell of the Capitals we were able to do just that in Tyutin. Now we are able to execute the plan I have been looking to do for a month or so now.” - GM Muchowski The plan he is referring to is with bringing in Two Veteran Defenders he is now able to send Martin Marincin down to the Greenville Road Warriors. Marincin, who was playing minimal time on the 3rd pairing is a huge part of GM Muchowski’s plans for Greenville. However, with his high end Defensive ability he was the 4th member of the PK unit. Now that he has brought in a player who can replace him on the PK, he is free to set his plan in motion to send Marincin down to the Minors along with Newly acquired Taylor Beck who will be 1 and 2 the best players on the team. “Obviously I want to stay up with the Devils, who wouldn’t. That being said, Kris (Muchowski) sat down with me and explained the situation. I will get top line minutes in Greenville. He wants me to get the opportunity to play and develop which I am not getting here in Jersey. After its all said and done I am excited at the prospect of being the go to guy in Greenville and getting a lot more playing time” - Martin Marincin Marincin is young and will be with the team for the foreseeable future. If he continues to improve his game we will see him back with the Devils in no time. - New Jersey Times
