Torch Passed

2016-02-06

Everyone in the organization knew this was coming.

The torch has finally been passed from Patrick Marleau to Claude Giroux as the former captain was dealt to San Jose for Milan Lucic who's slated to come in on the second line and solidify that left side.

"We had been looking to deal Marleau for awhile now and this was something he was well aware of as it had been discussed previously."

According to sources, Marleau had been working with Claude in preparation of this coming and Giroux was slated to take captaincy once a deal was finalized .

"We're very excited to bring in a guy like Lucic that gives us a strong physical presence and will do a good job making lives miserable against opponents."

Lucic was able to arrive in town and practice with the team leading to their next game. The time off has been a perfect window for the Canadiens to revamp their roster.

"Our goal is still to make the playoffs. The guys in that locker room have banded together in the wake of injuries to Oshie and Barrie. They still believe in each other and are going to push hard to make the playoffs."

On the injury front, Oshie is still about a month away from returning while Barrie could possibly make a return in the playoffs if they go that far.

The Habs are still in the market for another top pairing dman but GM Duran Size believes in this group and believes a strong second half of the season can be the push the Habs need to come out swinging and be a force in the East.
