Sharks Analysis: 7-3-1 since new GM

2016-01-19

Since taking over the Sharks, general manager Mitchell Dambach has found a line up that is working with a record of 7-3-1.

When he first took over he said there would be maybe a trade when he took over before the deadline... he lied.

The first move he made was questioned as he moved arguably the best D man in the league Erik Karlsson

12-22 Strengthening the backup netminding? Pushing Boston to #1

Karlsson gone along with the 1 year UFA BRYZ in exchange for a cheaper UFA signed at 3 years Scott Darling and a stronger less offense D man Dustin Byfuglien. Byfuglien was named Captain of the sharks and has 6 points in his 10 played while Karlsson has 7 in 10.

Bryz was immediatly demoted and Darling has seen 2 very poor starts for the sharks @ 4 GAA  .871 SV% 1-1-0

12-24 Good bye #2 C

Zajac was moved for scraps being a UFA at the end of the year and a prospect named Heatherington and a 7th D man named Cole.

In Cole's 5 games he is a -4 with 0 points and watches most games from the pressbox. It would appear this trade was only made to allow Kruger to move up in the line up and make their D crop more fruitful as Padry and Bartkowski were lost to waivers with the arrival of Weber.

01-05 Scraps for Scraps

Weber and Byron was a one for one trade with the Blues to stregnthen the blue line as a 6th defender as the SJ did not need any more bottom 6 players with the pick up of Brent and Palushaj from waivers. Brent was later placed on waivers but Palushaj's speed has kept with the team

01-16 Bottom Pairings

The last trade seen was for a bottom 6 C that can also play either wing. Matt Hendricks makes the PK line much more solid at the cost of Andersson and a 4th it was a no brainer in the push for the play offs. A more experienced and cheaper option Greene was swapped for Weber to make the cap hit even. and today on 1/19 we saw a bottom 6 forward grabbed, James Sheppard in which he can play C or LW. Upon his arrival young Nic Deslauriers was once again sent to the minors.

From these moves we can see the vision is a more defensive one than the all out attack seen from other teams.

Are the Sharks all in here? What peices do they need? Is talent better than experience?
