Heading Into Camp

2015-10-03

Following a disapointing season the Philadelphia Flyers made many changes this offseason.  First they cleaned house of all it's management and scouting staff, followed by of course the hiring of all new management and scouting staff members.  Then came the draft and some offseason trades.    Following that was a very active UFA period where the Flyers signed a slew of players for both their pro and farm level teams.  Gm and Team President Wes Mucyk had these comments "We are very happy with all the guys we were able to bring in.  We hope to be competiitve at both levels, and be able to instill upon our young guys a great work ethic, attention to details and professionalism.  We feel that we have a team now that fits right with the coach we have in place.  We know our team will be quick, great defensively while also being physical yet still playing a disciplined game."

During the time the Flyers were dismembering their off ice staff, rumors were swirling that head coach Claude Julien would also see the gallows, but he remained with the team and now has a roster that fits under  his coaching style and what he likes to do with his team.  Philadelphia also brought in many veteran players to help out with the young guys developing down on the Phantoms.  Most of these guys are more defensive minded type players with great leadership qualities.  The Phantoms have several young offensive talents to mix in this upcoming season, and the organization has high hopes for their futures.

The Flyers recently made news when they assigned their teams Captaincy to young Gabriel Landeskog, a center piece and cornerstone of this team and organization going forward.  The captaincy announcement  came just a couple of days following the news that the organization was placing 1 of their franchise player tags on Landeskog.

The Flyers will have a lot of bodies in training camp this season, and it is assumed by most hockey experts that most of the decisions regarding this roster have already been made.  We expect a couple of the young kids such as Nichuskin or Connolly to challenge for a spot on the pro team, but it is figured that most of the competition will be for guys battling to take a spot in the teams bottom 6.
