Flyers Trade Deadline Recap

2024-06-16

GM Tommy Barr has had a relatively quiet season on the trade front compared to prior seasons. That in part was due to the team’s indifferent start and seriously tough Metro division … however, having gone 24-6-0 in the last 30 games leading into trade deadline and sitting near the top of the division it was time to make some moves and help the team out for the final run and playoffs.

Deal #1 :

PHI acquires Egor Sharangovich

LAK acquires Fabian Lysell, Jack Peart and Riley Barber

GM quote:
Going into the deadline we knew our fourth line was an area of weakness and were looking at options to strengthen. We’ve been a fan of Sharangovich for a while and knew he’d be a significant upgrade on Barber for our fourth line and another option on the penalty kill.

Egor’s on a team friendly contract, has plenty of term and due a nice re-rate for next season. All key attributes that we were looking for in our scouting search.

We’re a big fan of Lysell but knew it was a piece that GM Snider was keen to add. One he knew we were willing to move Fabian the deal came together pretty quickly.

Deal #2 :

PHI acquires Rasmus Andersson and DAL 1st 2025

NSH acquires DAL 1st 2024, PHI 1st 2024, CAR 2nd 2024 and VGK 3rd 2024

GM quote:

We had known from the outset that strengthening our 3rd pair D was a key goal through trade deadline as we weren’t sure that Byram and Hughes were quite ready to take on the responsibility of a deep playoff run. That being said … we never thought we’d have the chance to acquire a top pair D with term to his name.

Ultimately, this deal came out of the blue. We never thought GM Wolf was interested in moving a guy like Andersson but once we saw the Crosby move we reached out to see what else might be on the horizon. Andersson’s name came up and it grew from there.

Views from across the GM population suggest that it was a steep price to pay but we’re extremely happy to have a landed a top D, that’s in his prime years on a team friendly contract. We’ll potentially have a franchise tag available by the time his deal is current contract is due to end so there may be an option to keep Rasmus as a Flyer for the next 7-9 years.

Deal #3 :

PHI acquires Christian Dvorak

DET acquires Kevin Stenlund, Jack Ahcan and $1,000,000

GM quote:

Christian is a great addition to our 4th line. Solid in the face-off dot and brings a strong defensive game. We’re aware he’s struggled and the contract could be a drag going forward but this was a deal on the here and now and we believe makes this team harder to play against come playoff time whilst taking the load off some of our stars.
